On June 5, 2023, the Sioux Center City Council approved a major library renovation consisting of three different phases. Included in this project will be a large hands-on STEM room, the addition of 3 small study rooms, and a renovated large programming room.
There is no firm date set to begin construction as the library is still working with the city and contractors to finalize the plans. However, the proposed layout is below. We will continue to update this page as more information is available.
The total cost of this project is estimated to be approximately $440,000. The city has agreed to cover $300,000. The library will be responsible for raising the additional funds necessary to complete the project. Since 2020, the library has seen a steady increase in our meeting room rentals bringing them to well over 1,000 rentals yearly. 50% of these rentals are for the small study room that we currently have. In addition to that, we have had multiple requests and responses to past surveys from parents of small children that there is a great need for a indoor activity space for kids, especially in the winter months. The city has also shared that they have received similar comments on surveys that they have put out to the community. The children’s programmers here at the library recorded their largest attendance to date for Storytime this summer with 89 people in attendance! These are just a few of the reasons that the library brought this renovation project to the city council.
